João Chagas serves as the Director of Compliance and Human Resources at TerraCap Management, a real estate investment firm registered with the SEC as an investment adviser. In his role, Mr. Chagas oversees the firm’s compliance program, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory standards. He conducts regular risk assessments, reviews regulatory updates, and manages the onboarding of new investors. By collaborating closely with all departments within TerraCap, Mr. Chagas fosters a strong culture of compliance throughout the team. With over 15 years of experience in compliance, his leadership plays an important role in upholding the firm’s compliance practices while navigating constantly evolving regulatory standards.
In addition to his compliance duties, Mr. Chagas leads the firm’s Human Resources initiatives. He plays an integral role in talent acquisition, employee relations, and the onboarding of new team members.
Before his role in Compliance and Human Resources at TerraCap, Mr. Chagas directed the Compliance program for an SEC-registered real estate investment firm based in Dallas. He also served as the Managing Compliance Consultant at Bovill in New York, where he supported numerous clients registered with the SEC, FINRA, and NFA, addressing their compliance and regulatory needs and leading Bovill’s US operations. Further broadening his experience, Mr. Chagas was the Compliance Officer for two prominent hedge funds: Balyasny and BTG Pactual, Latin America’s largest investment bank.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Chagas was a Junior Compliance Officer at Credit Suisse Group in São Paulo, Brazil. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP) in 2012.
